Fire Saga vs. Song Saga: Which one is more fun?

It can be true if you want it to be true. Just look into your heart and believe.

OK, no, it’s a made-up story, but we love the fact that it’s so comically close to the real Eurovision Song Contest and all the amazing characters who participate in it that this is a legit question.

In the #1 hit music game, Song Saga, players share songs and stories based on cards in the box. We love hearing all the authentic, usually true memories people have. But to make playing Song Saga even more interesting, we added “The Bullshit Rule.”

This basically means that if you don’t have a story to share for any particular card, you can make one up. After the round, it’s up to you to decide if you want to confess or keep the cred. We think Lars Erikssong and Sigrit Eriksdóttir would approve

However, the Fire Saga movie is and always will be one story. With Song Saga you get lots of stories and they’re never the same.

Rachel McAdams who plays Sigrit sang the beginning of most of Fire Saga’s songs, but the main vocal performances are by Molly Sandén, AKA My Marianne.

Eurovision fans may recognise Sandén’s name. She came third when she represented Sweden at the Junior Eurovision Song Contest in 2006

You don’t have to sing to play Song Saga. In fact, singing, along with air guitar and dancing, are entirely optional. But also probable.

Watching Will Ferrell sing is always gonna be fun and funny. But so is watching your friends.

The Eurovision Song Contest, sometimes abbreviated to ESC and commonly referred to as Eurovision, is an international songwriting competition organised annually by the European Broadcasting Union, featuring participants representing primarily European countries.

Eurovision has been held annually since 1956, with the exception of 2020, when the pandemic rendered it impossible. This makes it one of the longest-running TV programs in the world.

The inaugural 1956 event featured just 14 European countries, but now as many as 39 nations send a competitor including Australia, who have been Eurovision mainstays since 2015 despite lying on the other side of the world. In fact, Australia came close to winning in 2016 when Dami Im finished second with her bombastic ballad “Sound of Silence.”

Each year, competing countries send one solo performer or group performing an original song to the contest.

At the grand final, after all of the acts have performed their song, each country awards two sets of points to its favourite 10 performances: 12 points for the best, 10 for the second-best, and then eight points descending to one point for the next eight.

The country’s expert jury awarded the first set of points, while the second is awarded by the country’s viewing public. After all the votes are in, the country with the highest overall score is declared the winner.

Norway holds the ignominious honour of finishing bottom with an overall score of “nul points” – or zero points – on no fewer than four occasions which may have been the spark of the idea for the Fire Saga Netflix movie.

On the other hand, Song Saga is a competition between friends that can happen way more than once a year. You can play anytime, and the ridiculous outfits are optional. For now, there’s no Song Saga TV show, but we’re working on it.

The full title of this glorious film is “Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga.”

The story revolves around two aspiring musicians Lars and Sigrit who are given the opportunity to represent their country at the world’s biggest song competition and finally have a chance to prove that any dream worth having is a dream worth fighting for.

According to the Rotten Tomatoes, “Tomatometer,” “Fire Saga” gets a 67% score and a 77% Audience Score.

Plus, a movie only lasts for around 90 minutes. Most people we know end up playing Song Saga all night long!

The biggest stars in Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga are Will Ferrell, Rachel McAdams and Dan Stevens, but there are tons of cool cameos.

The Song Saga cast is you and whoever you invite to play. We like to say that Song Saga turns new friends into best friends and best friends into better friends.

So unless you’re best friends with Will Ferrell, Rachel McAdams and Dan Stevens, Song Saga wins this one.

What is the best Fire Saga song?

Probably “Husavik.” “Husavik” arrives as a deus ex machina to save Fire Saga’s relationship and their artistic integrity. And it’s Sigrit’s (and Lars’) tribute to her hometown in Iceland.

Not only does she sing in Icelandic and hit incredible notes, but she also sings the lyric, “Where the whales can live, ’cause they’re gentle people.”

It’s just sweet enough to make you cry which is ironic considering the film is a comedy. But hey, that’s the power of Eurovision.

Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga first aired on Netflix on June 26, 2020.

The Fire Saga story follows two Iceland-based Eurovision hopefuls, Lars (Will Ferrell) and Sigrid (Rachel McAdams), who are collectively known as Fire Saga, a rock band trying to make it big and move on from their small fishing town full of people who don’t believe in them.

Among those doubters is Lars’ father, Erick (Pierce Brosnan), whose disappointment hounds Lars as he strives to become a popular musician. Eventually, as the trailer shows, Fire Saga make it into Eurovision — albeit by default — and are tasked with representing their home country of Iceland on this worldwide stage.

Song Saga may not have a Netflix show (yet), but we are trying to make it big by helping people reconnect with the music and moments that make them who they are. We think that’s pretty powerful, but we’ll give the nod to the film for now.
